Perhaps a better wording of my comment would be:

Bill - The IDL itself doesn't contain explicit CORBA references, it is
implementation-dependent.  However the C bindings for a CORBA
implementation of IDL do expose small, mostly-opaque CORBA details,
primarily in the form of the exception mechanism (CORBA_Environment) and
the implementation of sequences.
