Another debug patch

Thanks for the testing Thibault! Looking at the output, the hpet's
set_next_event() function is failing, which I can't see as happening due to the
commits listed above (thought I could be wrong).

Could you run again with this debug patch, which should give us some more
insight about what's actually happening with the hpet->set_next_event() code?
