Summary: ACPI-related freeze on Intel PM965
Product: ACPI
Version: 2.5
KernelVersion: 2.6.23.1
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Tree: Mainline
Status: NEW
Severity: high
Priority: P1
Component: Power-Processor
AssignedTo: acpi_power-processor at kernel-bugs.osdl.org
ReportedBy: kernel-bugzilla at joyware.de
Most recent kernel where this bug did not occur: n/a
Distribution: n/a
Hardware Environment: Samsung X65 (x86_64)
Software Environment: ??
Problem Description:
On my Samsung X65 notebook (Intel PM965 + ICH8M, Core 2 DUo), almost all ACPI
modules lead to a complete freeze of the machine, leaving no error messages.
I blacklisted the modules ac battery button fan processor thermal.
Only basic ACPI support gets loaded upon system boot.
modprobe fan works fine - the module gets loaded, no freeze.
All other modules freeze the system.
I extracted and recompiled DSDT, but encountered no errors and no warnings.
I will attach several debugging outputs.
I reproduced this with several kernels, vanilla 2.6.23.1, vanilla 2.6.22,
2.6.22-ubuntu, and without the nvidia binary module - it makes no difference.
Steps to reproduce:
Load any ACPI sub-module, like:
modprobe processor
