[Foomatic] CUPS driver for Zebra SmartCard (Zebracard) Printers?

Hi all,

the Free Software Foundation Europe [1] is currently looking for a way
to print on SmartCards and has been looking for printers that could do
this. Unfortunately all of them only come with proprietary drivers,
apparently.

The best choice at the moment seem the Zebra SmartCard printers [2],
as the company seems cooperative and the documentation adequate. Also,
people seem to agree that their "ZPL" language appears to be easy
enough to implement.

I inquired to the CUPS people about how hard it would be to get the
printer supported -- and the reply by someone from EasySW, the company
working in CUPS, was that it should be easy enough and that I should
enquire to them for pricing.

Since that person seems to have gone on vacation until January after
writing the mail, I wonder whether there is any volunteer capable of
CUPS driver development willing to do this task.

If you think you can help, please let me know, your help would be
greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Georg
