The Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions has been very
effective in resolving problems in cell phone incompatibility with Text
Telephones for the Deaf (TTD) and is working on accessibility problems with
voice response systems. This would be a good forum to publicize our project
and to spread the word about accessibility for embedded Linux.

Subject: New ATIS Committee - Telecommunications Accessibility Council
Dear Telecommunications Professional:
I am writing you today to inform you of the formation of an innovative new
ATIS Committee and to invite you to participate in a Virtual Presentation
that will outline the details of this exciting new initiative.
ATIS is in early stages of forming the Telecommunications Accessibility
Council (TAC) - an "umbrella" group designed to address a wide range of
telecom accessibility issues. There is currently no industry forum equipped
to bring together all stakeholders to address such issues, and the TAC will
seek to fill that void by providing a venue for participants to identify,
prioritize and address accessibility and usability issues throughout the
communications industry, including emerging technologies, PDAs, pagers,
speech recognition devices, teleconferencing equipment, mobile handsets,
computer keyboards and VoIP terminals. The proposed TAC mission is to
investigate, coordinate and disseminate potential accessibility and
usability solutions for telecommunications services and terminals as
required by relevant regulations. The council will consist of consumer
organizations, government entities, equipment manufacturers, assistive
technology manufacturers, service providers and other interested parties.
ATIS is sponsoring a Virtual (dial-in/web) Presentation on the new
initiative on Wednesday, April 14, 2004, 3-5 PM EDT.
In this presentation, project leaders will summarize the TAC mission and
scope and solicit industry input.
We hope that you will be able to join us for the first public meeting of
this vital new group.
