Please don’t confuse a hard fork with a chain split.
A chain split can happen at every block, a hard fork is nothing but a 
protocol upgrade that when supported by all miners will result in a linear 
simple chain of blocks.

It would be unhelpful to confuse the two.

In actual fact, your confusion likely caused you to ask this question as 
your entire question is based on this misconception.

More to the point; someone splitting off your chain can not be guarded 
against. Again, this can happen any block, including right now.
