Summary: RAID1 should improve read performance
           Product: IO/Storage
           Version: 2.5
    Kernel Version: 2.6.34
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: Linux
              Tree: Mainline
            Status: NEW
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: P1
         Component: MD
        AssignedTo: io_md at kernel-bugs.osdl.org
        ReportedBy: poletti.marco at gmail.com
        Regression: No

When using RAID1 on 2 drives, write performance must be about the same as a
single drive, but read performance can (theoretically) double, distributing
reads on both drives.

This has probably already been reported by someone.
I tried searching in the old bugs but I didn't find anything related.

See this discussion:
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/250390-14-does-raid-increase-read-speed

They say this optimization is already implemented in BSD and some high-end RAID
cards.
