[cgl_discussion] Proposal for disconnecting release numbers f rom continuous builds

I would think that the milestone builds would be essentially snap
shots of the current development tree. However, over the course of
time, there could potentially be different projects that want to
use a certain milestone build as their base while they undergo
development of their project. What would happen in that case is
that the certain milestone builds may need certain patches applied
to them in order for the project development to proceed. This is
easily handled by the PLM system, but the combination of the
various milestone builds and patches to those builds would need to be
tracked and maintained.

Another question: would all of the milestone builds be kept forever
on the build system? or would really old builds (old is defined by
an age, or a relatively useless build compared to others) be eventually
deleted? I would tend to think that you would want to try to maintain
all of the milestone builds, if possible.
