We have an unit_test repository in our BK tree:
  http://tipc-linux.bkbits.net:8080/unit_tests
which contains some testing stuff etc. Of course most of it
only works with 2.5-version.

Yes. OTH, forward-porting 2.4 to 2.5 was pretty painless, so in
theory doing it backwards should not be too big effort.
