I would like to propose a CGL benchmark: a new tool for measuring
performances
of Linux basic services for Carrier Grade applications.

Today's getting measurement figures on Linuxneeds either to select a
benchmark
like LMbench, netbench ( micro benchmarks) and others or to use standard
benchs like CPU2000 , SPECweb, Specjapp ..
application oriented ...

Then you need to compare from architecture to architecture and there is in
general no maintained data base.

Moreover you dont know what is measured. For instance LMBENCH measure TCP
latency as
1 send + 1 receive + 1 send + 1 receive between two machines.

As CGL includes specific requirements for Telco, i would like to propose
a standard benchmark promoted (and maintained ?) by OSDL ?

It should include measurement of things like scheduling latency ,
communication layers latency ( including
cluster messaging service ...) and answer to every performance requirement
where figure is given as objective .
