Hello Matt, hello all,

thank you for your email.

I will join the board meeting via conf call most probably as I shall be at
a different HPC event the very same days.

First of all, let me share that the recent revamp of the metrics page is
amazing, absolutely fantastic work! I could browse all metrics by category,
read them one by one, etc. I loved the verbose description for each metric
about its use case, etc.

Congratulations for the hard work and the very neat outcome to the entire
team, it is an amazing progress!

About goals for 2020, I would like to raise one point for debate. I
remember we discussed this already two years ago in Sonoma so apologies if
this sounds misplaced. We agreed to work on metrics as tools to evaluate
the success of an open source project but at the same time we agreed to
refrain from providing any judgement or comparison of projects.

Now given that the metrics are growing in number, scope and complexity, my
suggestion as a goal for 2020 would be to propose that we create KPIs or
weighted use of metrics by category in order to come up with some "label"
or "attribute" for each one. Eg. based on the metrics in the GMD category,
could we process and combine them in order to evaluate a "growth" or
"maturity" or "decline" label?

We would not rate a project as successful or failing yet we would provide
some guidance for each category: growing / mature / declining, safe or at
risk based on governance, license compliance, etc. Large outreach vs niche
project based on diversity, geography, etc.

I think this may become more valuable as the metrics grow further.

Happy to accept criticism if this sounds like a bad idea :-)

Maybe add this to the agenda?

Thank you

Andrea
