Hey folks,

I would like to continue our conversation about the upcoming summit.

We are fortunate to have a large venue, so room size will not be an
issue. As the agenda develops we just need to tell Angela what we
need.

Are there any volunteers out there who would like to review our
current mailing list? I believe it is comprehensive, but a review
could help us add new people to the list. I would be willing to
hold a special call with a group to go over this list. All of you
lurkers out there please send your suggestions for people we can
invite to participate.

For anyone on this mailing list, the date is April 8-10 in Austin
Texas. So save the date. A more formal message to follow. ;-)

Registration is open - REGISTER EARLY - We ended up turning people
away last year.

Here are some of my ideas. I also suggest we narrow down one or two
technical issues that we think we could solve this year (ala
Portland) and focus on those. PEOPLE ON THIS LIST: Please send
us your ideas. I would love to see a well defined topic and then a
list of the key people who would need to be present to effectively
take action on a particular desktop issue.

Idea topics:

Want to see Linux pre-installed on more PCs? Here what it will take
from the horses mouth.

This years Linux Foundation Desktop Architects Meeting is bringing
together representatives from major PC manufacturers around the
globe. Representatives from Dell, Hewlett Packard, Asus, Lenovo,
Everex and more will be on hand to explain the process of getting
getting your software on their boxes. They will talk technical
challenges as well as business challenges. Community leaders will
have a chance to listen and ask questions about this emerging area of
Linux usage.

Linux Desktop Case Studies - How do OEM's partner with Distributions
Vendors

We will have representatives from Zonbu and Everex, Lenovo and
Novell, Xandros and Asus that will explain how they work together to
deliver products like the Zonbu Notebook, Asus Eee PC, and the Lenovo
Thinkpad. See how these new and interesting Linux products are
selling like hotcakes and listen to some of the technical challenges
these vendors would like to work with the community to solve.

End Users and Upstream Maintainers Face to Face

Large organizations are finally deploying Linux on the desktop and
they want to speak to the developers of the code about their
experience. Maintainers want to code and may be curious about how
their work is used in interesting and exciting ways. We will have
end users from Peugot, Extremadora Spain, and more willing to talk
directly to the people who make upstream decisions about the software
they use.

What does "Linux Desktop" mean?

Is the concept of a "Linux" brand on the desktop important? What
brand promises would be made? A common user experience? Application
interoperability? Common device support? We will gather the
marketing experts from major Linux distributions and solution
providers to discuss what exactly the Linux name means to them.

Improving Userspace Support for Third Party Devices

The Linux kernel support more device drivers than any other OS out
there. One of the challenges to end users is finding a way to
configure these devices in a simple and intuitive way. This
session will identify major areas that need improvement. Dan
William's will highlight examples of how to "do it right" with
Network manager.

I believe we have this in place at the LF. I will try and post
instructions to use the wiki later today.
