Fortunately a lot of core Android kernel features are now in the
mainline kernel (discussed at the recent Linux Plumbers Conference). So
hopefully that means newer Android releases will ship with more mainline
kernels so we can get away from OEMs using so-called "evil vendor trees". ;)

That doesn't help us *right now*, but hopefully will in the coming years.
