For the planned printing support in LSB 3.2

http://www.freestandards.org/en/OpenPrinting/SummitLexington

we plan to make available distribution-independent driver packages on
our servers, and here we will not only cover manufacturer-supplied
drivers but also the free software printer drivers which volunteer
programmers have developed. I think as soon as all agreements are made
or in the beta phase of the development of the LSB printer DDK, I will
encourage the active free software driver projects (Gutenprint, foo2zjs,
Epson EPL-"L" series driver, ...) to test the DDK and build such packages.

Then manufacturers can take these as examples for their own driver packages.
