I've just verified that the problem also occurs with the iceweasel
package as shipped in Debian etch.  ("Iceweasel" is the name Debian uses
for Firefox because of a trademark dispute with the Mozilla Foundation.)

This Iceweasel uses libstdc++6, so we can eliminate that concern.
