   All the work produced by the Linux Foundation is free software
   according to the OSI definitions, but there is no requirement for a
   specific license. The licenses are selected depending on what is
   most suitable for each individual project.

Just a little clarification:


     * LSB: mostly GPL, some tools Artistic


There are still some things in Artistic, but it's extremely
unlikely a student project would get into those areas.
the tools I believe you reference are now BSD to improve
reusability in other projects - this is a change this year.

(And of course the spec is GNU FDL)
