For reference, that bug is here:

According to the bug, the decision was more of a time-and-resources
decision than any objection to getifaddrs() and freeifaddrs().
Navigator also reports that getifaddrs() has seem some app usage.  So
I'm game for its inclusion for LSB 5.0.
