it really needs registered memory?  Oh, I see, it's ECC too.
hey, that's "server memory" - registered+ECC :-) 

prices sound right.  184-pin pc2100->pc2700 are fully
interchangeable, these days if you order pc2100 you
usually get pc2700 anyway (or even pc3200, same applies
there).  just another shopping point...   there's no
performance benefit to getting faster ram than the
system is planned for since the FSB is the limiting factor,
but it works if it's easier to find.

4gb is a good amount, yes.
