From mats.d.wichmann at intel.com Thu Mar 24 10:37:51 2005 From: mats.d.wichmann at intel.com (Wichmann, Mats D) Date: Thu Jul 12 13:07:53 2007 Subject: [Lsb-sc] Policy change proposal: Message-ID: Steering Committee: Time to move this forward. Please indicate two preferences: 1. FOR or AGAINST the change 2. Version (A) (short timeout) or Version (B) (no timeout). OLD Policy: For N-1 minor releases, 3 month overlap for distributions, and 12 month overlap for applications. For M major releases, 6 month overlap for distributions. Proposed NEW Policy, Version (A) The LSB project will support certification of no more than two major releases concurrently. Upon release of the certification program for major release "M", major release "M-2" will become unavailable for new runtime certifications within one month, and new application certifications within three months. Renewals of previously granted certifications are not affected. Any certifications in progress at the time of the triggering release may petition the LSB Certification Authority for an extension. Rationale: this policy is adopted to maximize the use of LSB project resources in a forward-looking manner. Proposed NEW Policy, Version (B) The LSB project will support certification of no more than two major releases concurrently. Upon release of the certification program for major release "M", major release "M-2" will become unavailable for new runtime certifications and new application certifications. Renewals of previously granted certifications are not affected. Any certifications in progress at the time of the triggering release may petition the LSB Certification Authority for an extension. A comment was raised offline that I'm still digesting, that's that perhaps we should disengage an "LSB Policy" from being so specific to certification, which is ostensibly an FSG activity. Nonetheless, the policy as it is seems pretty clearly to need to change! >-----Original Message----- >From: Christopher Yeoh [mailto:cyeoh@samba.org] >Sent: Thursday, March 24, 2005 8:47 PM >To: Wichmann, Mats D >Cc: lsb-sc@freestandards.org >Subject: Re: [Lsb-sc] Policy change proposal: > >At 2005/3/24 10:37-0800 Wichmann, Mats D writes: >> Steering Committee: >> >> Time to move this forward.
