From imurdock at imurdock.com Thu Aug 10 05:14:20 2006 From: imurdock at imurdock.com (Ian Murdock) Date: Thu Jul 12 13:07:54 2007 Subject: [lsb-sc] additional LSB Steering Committee members Message-ID: Hello LSB Steering Committee members, As previously mentioned, it has been a goal to add representatives from all stakeholders in the LSB ecosystem (distros, ISVs, and upstreams). With the addition of Paul, Thorsten, and Jeff, we are well represented by the key distros now; and I'm pleased to announce that we've now added three new members to the LSB Steering Committee representing ISVs: Brian Aker from MySQL, Jeff Ayers from RealNetworks, and Kay Tate from IBM. Brian/MySQL will represent the interests of server ISVs; Jeff/RealNetworks will represent the interests of desktop ISVs; and Kay (as head of the IBM Chiphopper program, which works with hundreds of ISVs) will represent what I like to call the "long tail" ISVs--the vast majority of (largely small) ISVs that don't have the clout to mandate what distros their customers run and, thus, often have to support a wide variety of distros. Welcome Brian, Jeff, and Kay! -ian -- Ian Murdock 317-863-2590 http://ianmurdock.com/ "Don't look back--something might be gaining on you." --Satchel Paige From imurdock at imurdock.com Thu Aug 10 06:27:42 2006 From: imurdock at imurdock.com (Ian Murdock) Date: Thu Jul 12 13:07:54 2007 Subject: [lsb-sc] scheduling a monthly conference call (take two) Message-ID: I sent out an email a few weeks ago but didn't hear from some of you (and some of you are new), so I'm trying again: I'd like to start having a monthly conference call with the LSB Steering Committee to discuss plans, priorities, status, etc. Could each of you send me a set of times that work for you (or don't work for you) for August and September? I'm shooting to have the first call ASAP. From there, we'll try to schedule at least a month in advance--ideally, we could talk at the same time every month, if our schedules can accommodate that. If you've already sent me times, you don't need to send them again unless they've changed. Based on the feedback thus far, here are our constraints: * Thorsten and Andrew are in Europe, so the time slot needs to be 8am or 9am PT. * Tues. mornings at 8am PT are the LSB conference calls. So, the Tues. 8am PT slot is out. * Thurs. mornings are bad for more than one of us, so that's out. -ian -- Ian Murdock 317-863-2590 http://ianmurdock.com/ "Don't look back--something might be gaining on you." --Satchel Paige From imurdock at imurdock.com Mon Aug 21 10:57:40 2006 From: imurdock at imurdock.com (Ian Murdock) Date: Thu Jul 12 13:07:54 2007 Subject: [lsb-sc] scheduling a monthly conference call (take two) In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Ok, I've heard from most of you, and I *think* Weds. mornings is the leading contender. As a reminder, the call is tomorrow (Wednesday, August 30) at 8am PDT/11am EDT/5pm CEST. The call in details are: 800-409-5512 (U.S.) 503-767-1200 (international) PIN: 33043 Agenda: * Overview of the LSB 3.2/4.0 roadmap * Roadmap alignment and backward compatibility discussion: How do we make it easy for users/developers to easily map from LSB versions to the distros they care about, i.e., how do we make it easy to find the "highest common denominator" across a given set of distros in the form of an LSB target? How do we offer the same kind of binary compatibility over time that UNIX has offered for years in the "Linux platform"? I will present our current strategy. * LSB modules and FSG workgroups: What is the plan for bringing all the FSG workgroups under the LSB umbrella? * LSB infrastructure proposal: I will outline the proposal we have put together with the Institute for Systems Programming at the Russian Academy of Sciences that is designed to 1. improve the coverage of the LSB testsuites; 2. making the testing process easier and, ultimately, make it easier to get certified; and 3. put a proper infrastructure in place that will allow us to more effectively manage the evolution of the LSB over time. * Developer support (SDK, application testkit, Developer Network) * ISV outreach and progress * Open discussion/questions Talk to everyone tomorrow! -ian -- Ian Murdock 317-863-2590 http://ianmurdock.com/ "Don't look back--something might be gaining on you." --Satchel Paige
