News Oliver reminded that the branch https://github.com/Open-Source-Compliance/Sharing-creates-value/tree/onboarding-new-persons contains the Charter, contribution guidelines and code of conduct. He further asked for comments on these files Sami presented the result of the investigation of his trademark department about whether there might be issues with our logo and whether we could apply of registration of our logo as trademark. The initial assessment showed no issues that would prevent us from using our logo. The registration and administration of our logo as trademark would probably cost 10k British pounds (5k for registration and 5k for administration). It was decided that we need to create first a logo usage policy, which defines the terms and conditions for use of our logo. 2. License compliant containers: Oliver presented the different elements (docker file, docker image, docker container) and how they are related. The commands FROM and RUN were seen critical in the discussion since they allow for uncontrolled insertion of artifacts into the docker image. (Note: can we define here more best practices for the developers, first attempt is on slide 7?) Helio mentioned that they have the policy that the developers are only allowed to use artifacts for building a container image, which are internally available. Alexios mentioned that there are many different uses cases and things which apply to one use case may not apply to another use case. (Note: in the next meeting we should define the use cases and based on that start with best practices) There was also the suggestion to have an internal group (internal to an organization) which is in charge of providing base images to the other groups of the organization. But this model does not scale and the maintenance burden is very high. Helio suggested to think about something like a CII badge for containers to indicate to potential users that those are license complaint. If there is the use case "deploy the container in a device" the source code of the used packages shall be provided in the container image too (Note see also slide 7). If you put the container image to docker hub you could also create an image with the sources and place it next to the "binary image" (like Maven central) 3. Next steps: Next meeting 11 of March Proposed Agenda: 1. What approaches are existing for license compliant containers All 2. Can we define some best practices All -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
